Here as some frequently asked question (FAQs) about our Notary Services.

Notary FAQs

Most frequent questions and answers
How long does an appointment take ?

The time it takes to have a document notarized varies depending on the number of documents and the number of signatures that need to be notarized. We can provide you with an estimated time frame for the completion of your notary services when you schedule your appointment.

What forms of ID are acceptable ?
  • State driver’s license and official non-driver’s IDs.
  • U.S. passports and U.S. military IDs.
  • IDs as well as resident alien IDs, including green cards, that the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services have issued.
Does Texas allow expired ID ?

The State of Texas requires notaries to verify the identification of every signer. Only valid, non-expired identification, with a photograph is acceptable.

What if I don’t have a valid ID ?

If you don’t know the signer personally and they lack a valid ID, you can enlist a credible person to identify the signer. A credible person is someone who knows the document signer personally.
In Texas, a credible witness can be used to identify a signer who has no identification. Texas Civil Practice and Remedies Code Chapter 121, §121.005 states that the oath of a credible witness “personally known” to the officer may be used in such situations. Currently, the codes does not provide a definition for “personally known.” According to the Texas Secretary of State’s Office, a judge will determined the meaning of “personally known” if the notarized document is ever be disputed or challenged in a court of law.
To proceed with such a notarization, the notary, the signer, and the credible witness must all be present at the time of the execution of the notarization. The credible witness must swear to the following:

  1. The person appearing before the notary is the same person named in the document.
  2. The credible witness personally knows the signer.
  3. The credible witness does not have a financial interest and is not named as a beneficiary in the document.
Can I cancel or reschedule an appointment ?

Yes! We offer free cancellations up to 2 hours prior to the scheduled appointment time. Rescheduling is free as long as the notary has not left for the appointment. If you cannot cancel within the 2 hour grace period, there is a $50 fee to cover the scheduling cost, and the notary’s time. You can cancel within our Scheduler or call us at (800) 903-4021

Is it possible to perform remote notarization via video in Texas for a document ?

At this time, the state of Texas permits its Notaries to perform Remote Online Notarizations (RON).
